Sun Nov 03 05:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Controversy Erupts Over Rishabh Pant’s Dismissal in Third Test Against New Zealand
**Wellington:** The third Test match between India and New Zealand saw a controversial dismissal of Indian batsman Rishabh Pant, sparking debate on social media and raising questions about the effectiveness of the Decision Review System (DRS).
Pant, who was batting aggressively and had scored 64 runs off 57 balls, was given out caught behind off Ajaz Patel. However, the initial decision by the on-field umpire was not out. New Zealand then opted for a DRS review, which showed the ball had grazed the edge of Pant’s bat before hitting his pads.
The controversy arose when Pant appealed to the third umpire, claiming his bat had also hit his pads simultaneously. However, the third umpire ruled Pant out, leading to widespread debate on social media.
Many Indian cricket fans argued that the bat hitting the pads before the ball was a “simultaneous impact”, and therefore, the decision should have been overturned. They believe the decision should have been in Pant’s favor.
The dismissal proved crucial as Pant was the only Indian batsman to show any resistance in the chase of a 147-run target. Ajaz Patel went on to bag a five-wicket haul in the innings, after claiming another five-wicket haul in the first innings.
