**Newcastle United stunned Arsenal with a 1-0 victory at St. James’ Park on Saturday, dealing a blow to the Gunners’ Premier League title aspirations.**

Alexander Isak’s early headed goal in the 12th minute proved to be the difference, as Newcastle snapped a six-game winless streak in the league.

Isak, who now has 12 goals in his last 12 home league games, rose above Gabriel and William Saliba to powerfully head in a pinpoint cross from Anthony Gordon. “That was massive,” said Isak. “A big game against a big team, I think it means a lot, a bit of a statement to us and to the fans that we can win this game.”

Despite several missed chances, including a header just wide by Bukayo Saka, Arsenal struggled to break down a determined Newcastle defense.

“We are all a bit sad because we wanted to win today,” admitted Arsenal defender William Saliba. “Unfortunately we didn’t and we didn’t play the game we wanted to play. We deserved to lose today I think.”

The victory propelled Newcastle into eighth place on 15 points, while Arsenal remain in provisional third with 18 points, awaiting the results of Manchester City and Liverpool later in the day.

This defeat marks the first time Arsenal have lost consecutive away league matches since May 2022.
