The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has condemned the Indian government’s decision to deny political clearance to Rajya Sabha MP V Sivadasan to attend the Parliamentarian’s Forum Against Fascism in Caracas, Venezuela. The CPI(M) labeled the denial a politically motivated act aimed at suppressing dissenting voices.
The party, in a statement, revealed that they received an invitation from the National Assembly of Venezuela to nominate a member for the forum. They chose Sivadasan, who despite securing Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) clearance, was denied permission by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The CPI(M) contends that this decision violates Sivadasan’s rights as an MP and highlights a pattern of political discrimination by the government. They argue that the denial is part of a larger strategy to silence opposition voices and prevent alternative viewpoints from being heard.
The party called on all opposition parties and their MPs to be concerned about this alleged act of suppression, urging them to stand against the government’s “policy of political discrimination.”
The Parliamentarian’s Forum Against Fascism is scheduled to take place on November 4-5.
