**Mumbai, India:** Rishabh Pant has climbed to the top of the run-scoring charts for wicketkeepers in the World Test Championship (WTC) after a crucial innings against New Zealand in the third Test at the Wankhede Stadium.
Pant, who scored 60 runs in India’s first innings, now holds the record with a total of 1933 runs in the WTC, surpassing Mohammad Rizwan (1880 runs) who has slipped to second place. Liton Das (1395 runs) and Alex Carey (1339 runs) occupy the third and fourth positions respectively.
Pant’s innings, which included 8 fours and 2 sixes, helped India reach a respectable total of 263 runs in their first innings. He achieved his half-century off just 36 balls, exhibiting his aggressive batting style.
While Pant’s achievement is a testament to his consistency, the news comes amidst reports of 19 Indian private companies and two Indian citizens being placed on a US sanctions list for their alleged involvement in Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that the companies are not violating any Indian laws and are in touch with US officials to clarify the situation.
This development adds another layer of complexity to India’s position as it continues to navigate the delicate geopolitical landscape surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
