Sun Nov 03 08:38:42 UTC 2024: ## Trash Fire Erupts at Hyderabad Transfer Station on Diwali Night
**Hyderabad, November 3, 2024:** A fire erupted at the Neredmet garbage transfer station in Hyderabad on the night of October 31st, fueled by a pile of trash collected from areas around Secunderabad.
According to sources, the fire was likely caused by a stray firecracker landing on the accumulated garbage. A fire tender and police were called to the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries.
While attempts were made to keep the incident under wraps, videos of the fire and firefighting efforts later surfaced online.
The incident highlighted concerns about the management of waste at transfer stations. Despite regulations requiring daily clearance of garbage, piles of waste often remain beyond one day, potentially creating hazards for surrounding residents.
The fire at Neredmet occurred on a holiday, and the accumulation of garbage was attributed to the unavailability of workers. While the Neredmet police confirmed a “minor” fire, attempts to contact the transfer station management for comment were unsuccessful.
The incident serves as a reminder of the need for stricter adherence to waste management protocols at transfer stations, ensuring the timely removal and disposal of garbage to prevent such incidents and safeguard public safety.
