Sat Nov 02 19:26:12 UTC 2024: ## Brazilian Grand Prix Qualifying Delayed by Heavy Rain
**Interlagos, Brazil:** Formula 1’s qualifying session for the Brazilian Grand Prix has been delayed due to torrential rain. The session was originally scheduled for 3pm local time (6pm UK), but heavy downpours forced a postponement just over 20 minutes before the start.
According to @SMitchellF1, the storm is severe with thunder and lightning, making it unsafe for the medical helicopter to fly. Qualifying is now expected to begin at 4.45pm local time (7.45pm UK) if weather conditions improve.
The delay comes after a thrilling sprint race on Saturday, which saw Lando Norris secure victory after Oscar Piastri, who started on pole, handed over the lead to help Norris’s championship pursuit. Max Verstappen, who finished third, received a penalty for a virtual safety car infringement, dropping him to fourth place and promoting Charles Leclerc to third.
If qualifying is cancelled, the results from the sprint qualifying will be used to determine the starting grid for the grand prix.
Meanwhile, Max Verstappen is under investigation by the stewards for a potential infringement during the virtual safety car period in the sprint race. He currently has 12 penalty points, which could lead to a race ban if he accumulates another 12.
McLaren has introduced a new rear wing and beam wing assembly in Brazil, which appears to be another positive development for the team that has shown strong progress throughout the season.
