Sat Nov 02 07:40:04 UTC 2024: ## India’s Test Dominance Crumbles as Aging Kohli and Sharma Struggle
**Bengaluru, India:** India’s reign as a Test powerhouse has suffered a major blow after they lost their three-match series at home to New Zealand. The defeat marks the first time in 12 years that India has lost a bilateral Test series on home soil.
The series loss has sparked concerns over the future of the Indian Test team, particularly the performance of senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Former Australian captain Ian Chappell pointed out the age factor playing a role in their declining performances. Kohli, set to turn 36 in November, and Rohit, already 37, might be struggling with the mental pressure of age catching up.
“They are both at that age where people start talking about it,” Chappell stated. “Maybe it starts to creep in the head a little bit ‘Am I getting to that age where it all starts to go downhill?'”
Adding to the concerns, former Australian captain Mark Taylor highlighted the lack of consistent runs from the Indian stalwarts. “They’ve moved on from Pujara and Rahane, and they’ve left Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, their two best players,” Taylor said. “But they’ve had a bit of a rocky period. They are not making the runs you expect a senior player to make. And that has put pressure on their young guys and the lower order.”
The Indian team management now faces a crucial task of finding solutions to address the batting woes. While promising young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill show potential, the team desperately needs their experienced veterans to regain their form and shoulder the responsibility. The pressure is now on Kohli and Rohit to prove they still have the fire in their bellies to lead India back to the top.
