Sat Nov 02 05:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Double the Joy (and Checks) for Some Social Security Beneficiaries This November

Some Social Security beneficiaries will be getting a pleasant surprise this November: three checks instead of the usual two. This is not a mistake, but rather a result of the calendar’s unusual alignment.

Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive their November payment on November 1st, as usual. However, they will also get their regular Social Security retirement benefits on a Wednesday in November, following the usual schedule.

The third check comes in the form of the December SSI payment, which is typically issued on the first business day of the month. Because December 1st falls on a Sunday in 2023, the payment will be distributed early on Friday, November 29th.

This unusual check distribution is due to the calendar’s quirk of having December 1st fall on a weekend. This pattern will repeat itself in future years, with SSI recipients receiving their January 2025 payment on December 31st, 2024, due to New Year’s Day falling on a Sunday. Similar instances will occur in other months throughout 2025, leading to double checks in May and August and skipped payments in June and September.

SSI provides monthly payments to individuals with limited income who are 65 or older, blind, or have a qualifying disability, including children. If you believe you may be eligible for SSI, you can initiate the application process on the Social Security website.
