**Jammu, India:** Renowned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and prominent entrepreneur, Devender Singh Rana, passed away on Thursday after a prolonged illness. He was 58.

Thousands gathered in Jammu on Friday to pay their last respects to the leader, who was known for his strong voice for the region and his commitment to unity among communities.

Rana’s mortal remains were brought to his home in Gandhi Nagar where political leaders, including his brother Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, paid tribute. A procession then carried his body to the Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground, where the last rites were performed by his son amidst an emotional atmosphere.

Leaders across the political spectrum, including former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, offered their condolences. Choudhary expressed grief, stating that “J&K has lost a big leader, especially a strong voice for Jammu.”

Rana’s political journey began in 2000, after a career in civil engineering. He served as media advisor to then-Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and later joined the Legislative Council. He was elected to the Assembly in 2014 and became a vocal advocate for Jammu’s interests.

In 2021, he joined the BJP after a long association with the National Conference. He also initiated the “Jammu Declaration” aimed at promoting the region’s political narrative.

Beyond politics, Rana was a successful entrepreneur, founding JamKash Vehicleades and Take One Media, a prominent media channel in the region.

His untimely death leaves a significant void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the communities he served. He will be remembered for his commitment to regional empowerment, unity, and his genuine connection with the people.
