**GLASGOW, SCOTLAND** – Beloved Scottish comedian Janey Godley has passed away at the age of 63, her agent confirmed on Saturday. Godley, known for her sharp wit and outspoken personality, had been receiving end-of-life care for terminal cancer since last month.
Godley rose to fame in recent years with her hilarious dubbed imitations of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s COVID-19 news briefings. She was also recognized for her stand-up career, which spanned over 25 years, and her activism, particularly her support for Scottish independence and transgender rights.
“Janey died peacefully in the wonderful Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow surrounded by her loved ones,” her agent said. “She will be hugely missed by her family, friends and her many fans. She will be remembered for her legendary voice overs of Nicola Sturgeon during the pandemic, her hilarious and outspoken comedy, but most of all for just being ‘Janey’.”
Godley’s daughter, comedian Ashley Storrie, shared a heartfelt message on social media, thanking fans for their support and acknowledging that the outpouring of love helped her mother live longer.
“We got her longer because of all of the support and the love in the world,” Storrie wrote. “I believe in my heart of hearts that she felt every bit of love you sent to her. And I think it kept her going.”
Godley’s legacy extends beyond her comedic talent. In 2016, she went viral for her protest against Donald Trump at his Turnberry golf resort, holding a sign that was, in her own words, “slightly spicier.” She was also a vocal advocate for various social causes, including LGBTQ+ rights.
“She brought joy and laughter on many occasions when we needed it most,” Scottish First Minister John Swinney wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “My condolences to her family. May she Rest in Peace.”
Godley leaves behind a husband of 44 years, Sean Storrie, and her daughter, Ashley Storrie. She will be remembered for her unwavering spirit, her sharp humor, and her passion for social justice.
