**New Delhi, India** – Rohit Bal, one of India’s most celebrated fashion designers, passed away on Friday, November 1st, 2024, at the age of 63 due to a cardiac arrest. The news was confirmed by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and several close friends of the designer.

Bal, affectionately known as “Gudda,” was a founding member of the FDCI and was renowned for his unique blend of traditional Indian patterns with modern sensibilities. His work redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations of designers.

He was hospitalized at Aashlok Hospital in Delhi on Wednesday after being discharged from the ICU a week prior. His last show, titled “Kaaynaat: A Bloom in the Universe,” was held at Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI grand finale in October, marking a triumphant return to the runway after battling illness.

Bal received numerous accolades throughout his illustrious career, including “Designer of the Year” at the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006 and the Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards in 2001. He was also named the Lakme Grand Finale Designer in 2012.

His passing has sent shockwaves through the Indian fashion industry. The FDCI, in a statement, lauded his contributions to the world of fashion and said his legacy of artistry, innovation, and forward thinking will live on.

Raymond Group Chairman Gautam Singhania, who called Bal an “incredible friend,” shared his condolences on X, saying his spirit will live on in all of us. Journalist Vir Sanghvi also expressed his sorrow, stating that the world is a poorer place without the designer.

Bal’s cremation is scheduled for Saturday, November 2nd, 2024.
