Fri Nov 01 20:41:55 UTC 2024: ## Renowned Indian Fashion Designer Rohit Bal Passes Away at 63

**New Delhi, November 2, 2024:** Renowned Indian fashion designer Rohit Bal passed away on Friday after a prolonged illness. He was 63. Bal, known for his unique blend of traditional Indian patterns with modern sensibilities, had been battling a heart ailment since last year.

Bal was admitted to the intensive care unit of Medanta Hospital in Gurugram in November 2023 due to complications related to his pre-existing cardiac condition. He had undergone an emergency angioplasty in 2010 after suffering a heart attack and had been living with a pacemaker for several years.

Despite facing health challenges, Bal made a comeback to the fashion world earlier this year and showcased his last collection at the Lakme India Fashion Week last month in Delhi. His presence at the event was met with both applause and concern as he stumbled on the ramp, raising worries about his health.

Bal’s death sent shockwaves through the fashion industry. Tributes and condolences poured in from fellow designers, celebrities, and fans alike. The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), of which Bal was a founding member, mourned his passing, calling him a “legendary designer” whose work “redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations.”

“We mourn the passing of legendary designer Rohit Bal. Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal’s work redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations,” the FDCI wrote on Instagram.

Acclaimed novelist and columnist Shobha De expressed her grief, stating, “Goodbye darling Gudda!! You were and always will remain, the OG who stuck to a vision….nobody came close!! Blessed to have known you from the time you launched your magic and opened the world’s fashion gaze to the ethereal beauty of your precious Kashmir! Love you and will miss you forever! More an artist than just a fashion icon. You went in glory!!!”

Fashion designer and actress Masaba Gupta also shared her condolences on Instagram, posting a heart emoji with a bandage and the text “Rohit Bal,” followed by “1961-2024.”

Bal’s legacy as a visionary designer will continue to inspire the fashion world. He was known for his flamboyant designs, which graced international celebrities like Pamela Anderson, Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell.

His cremation is scheduled to take place at the Lodhi Road Crematorium in Delhi at 5 pm on Saturday, November 2.
