Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a scathing attack on the Congress Party, accusing them of making unrealistic promises during elections.
In a tweet, PM Modi stated that the Congress party is now realizing that making false promises is easy, but fulfilling them is difficult or impossible. He also highlighted the Congress’s failure to fulfill their promises in the recent Haryana elections, where the people rejected their “lies” and chose a stable and progressive government.
PM Modi’s remarks were sparked by a statement made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, advising state units to only make promises that are financially feasible. This followed a statement by Karnataka’s Deputy CM, D.K. Shivakumar, who suggested the state government may reconsider its free bus travel scheme for women due to some expressing a willingness to pay.
In response to PM Modi’s criticism, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal defended the party’s policies, claiming they are effectively implementing their promises in Karnataka. He accused the BJP government of failing to fulfill its own promises while targeting Congress for their commitment to their pledges.
This comes as the political landscape heats up ahead of the upcoming 2024 general elections. The BJP is looking to retain its grip on power, while the Congress is actively campaigning to regain its influence. The exchange of accusations between the two parties is likely to continue as the election approaches.
