Sat Nov 02 14:38:33 UTC 2024: ## Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Apologizes for “Imported Maal” Remark, Controversy Continues

**Mumbai, India** – Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant has issued an apology for his controversial “imported maal” comment directed at Shaina NC, a BJP candidate in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. Sawant stated that his remark was misinterpreted and that he would never insult a woman.

The controversy erupted after Sawant allegedly referred to Shaina NC, who recently joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, as “imported maal” during a political rally. This led to an FIR being filed against Sawant and condemnation from various parties, including the BJP and the National Commission for Women (NCW).

Shaina NC, contesting from the Mumbadevi assembly seat, accused Sawant’s remark of reflecting the mentality of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut defended Sawant, arguing that the comment was simply a reference to Shaina NC’s outsider status and not an insult to women.

CM Shinde, however, criticized Sawant’s remark, stating that it was an insult to all women in the state and that Balasaheb Thackeray would have disapproved of such behavior. The NCW has called for action against Sawant, demanding that the Mumbai Police and the Election Commission take appropriate action.

Despite Sawant’s apology, the controversy continues to simmer, raising concerns about political discourse and respect for women in the upcoming elections.
