Sat Nov 02 03:47:11 UTC 2024: ## Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Faces Backlash for Sexist Remark Against Rival Party Leader

**Mumbai, India** – A heated political controversy has erupted in Maharashtra after Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant made a sexist remark against Shaina NC, a leader of the rival Shiv Sena faction. The incident occurred two days ago during a media interaction, where Sawant commented on Shaina NC’s recent move from the BJP to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction.

Sawant referred to Shaina NC as “imported goods” and asserted that “original goods are accepted here.” He further stated that “our goods are original,” alluding to Shaina NC’s previous association with the BJP.

Outraged by the remark, Shaina NC filed a complaint at the Nagpada police station, accusing Sawant of outraging her modesty. She questioned the silence of Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders and challenged Sawant’s claim of respect for women, highlighting his past actions.

A case has been registered against Arvind Sawant under Sections 79 and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on Shaina NC’s complaint.

Several political leaders have condemned Sawant’s comments, including Shiv Sena leader Milind Deora and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad. Deora called Sawant’s remark “outright disgusting” and criticized his past offensive remarks against Muslims.

In his defense, Sawant claimed to respect women and asserted his loyalty to Balasaheb Thackeray’s Sena, urging Shaina NC to file a complaint.

This incident has sparked a debate on gender equality and respect for women in politics, with many highlighting the inappropriate nature of Sawant’s remarks and demanding accountability. The incident also adds to the growing tension between the two factions of Shiv Sena ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly election, scheduled for November 20.
