**Mumbai:** The much-anticipated sequel, ‘भूल भुलैया 3’, starring Vidya Balan and Kartik Aaryan, has finally hit theatres. While the film initially promises a thrilling return of the iconic character, Manjulika, it ultimately falls short of expectations, failing to capture the magic of the original ‘भूल भुलैया’.
The film begins with a captivating backstory, introducing Manjulika, a skilled dancer and warrior princess, who is consumed by her desire for the throne. However, her ambition leads to her tragic demise, leaving behind a vengeful spirit thirsting for revenge.
Enter Ruhaan (Kartik Aaryan), a self-proclaimed “Ruh Baba” who uses his charlatan abilities to deceive people and exploit their vulnerabilities. When he gets involved with Meera (Trupti Dimri) and her family, he finds himself thrust into the world of Manjulika, unaware of the danger that awaits him.
Despite an intriguing setup, the film’s plot unravels quickly. The narrative becomes convoluted and riddled with inconsistencies. While the initial buildup promises an intriguing blend of horror and comedy, the second half loses its way, sacrificing logic and entertainment for a confusing and tedious climax.
While Kartik Aaryan’s performance shows potential, it lacks the originality and charm that made the original film successful. Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit bring a touch of class with their strong performances and impressive dance sequences, but their presence is insufficient to save the film from its failings.
The supporting cast, including Vijay Raj, Rajesh Sharma, Rajpal Yadav, and Sanjay Mishra, fail to deliver on the comedic front, leaving viewers disappointed.
Ultimately, ‘भूल भुलैया 3’ is a missed opportunity. The film relies heavily on clichés and predictable plot twists, leaving viewers feeling cheated of the thrilling ride they had hoped for. With a poorly executed script and lackluster direction, the sequel fails to live up to the legacy of the original.
If you’re looking for a spooky and fun horror-comedy, you’re better off revisiting the original ‘भूल भुलैया’.
