Fri Nov 01 09:42:03 UTC 2024: ## Sydney Sixers Win WBBL Opener Thanks to Teen Debutant
**Adelaide:** The Sydney Sixers kicked off their WBBL campaign with a thrilling three-wicket victory over the Melbourne Renegades, thanks to a stunning performance from 15-year-old debutant Caoimhe Bray.
Chasing a target of 178, the Sixers were in a strong position after a blistering 81 from veteran Ellyse Perry. However, they stumbled, losing five wickets for just 26 runs, leaving the victory in doubt.
It was then that Bray stepped up, combining with Sarah Bryce (36*) to secure the win with six balls to spare. The young all-rounder smashed the winning runs, a four over extra cover, leaving her ecstatic.
“It’s pretty cool,” Bray told the Seven Network. “I wasn’t expecting for it to go that well. It literally is a dream come true.”
Perry, who had mentored Bray, was full of praise for the teenager. “For a 15-year-old to hit a ball over extra cover to win the game is amazing,” Perry said. “She bowled really well too. She’s a really special kid.”
In other WBBL matches on Sunday, the Brisbane Heat defeated the defending champion Adelaide Strikers by four wickets, thanks to a steady innings of 44 not out from Charli Knott. The Perth Scorchers also claimed a 13-run victory over the Melbourne Stars, bowling them out for 109.
The WBBL continues on Monday evening with the Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder facing off.
