Fri Nov 01 17:00:13 UTC 2024: ## Congress’s “Guarantees” Under Fire: Modi Slams Party’s “Fake Promises”, Kharge Admits Financial Constraints

**New Delhi:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing them of making unrealistic promises they can’t deliver on. The PM’s comments come after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge advised state units to make only “fiscally doable” promises, seemingly acknowledging financial constraints faced by some of their “guarantees”.

Modi highlighted the Congress-led states of Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana, where he claims “developmental trajectory and fiscal health is turning from bad to worse”. He further claimed that the “so-called Guarantees” remain unfulfilled, calling it a “terrible deceit” on the people.

Kharge’s directive came after Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar suggested a possible “revisit” of the Shakti scheme, which provides free bus travel for women, citing requests from some women to pay for their tickets. While Shivakumar clarified that the scheme is not being withdrawn, the incident has sparked criticism from the BJP, who allege the Congress is struggling to fulfill its campaign promises.

The BJP has seized on the situation, with Modi accusing the Congress of promoting a “culture of fake promises” and highlighting the alleged rejection of the Congress in Haryana elections. The party claims the people of India want “development and progress”, not “fake promises”.

The Congress’s financial woes are a significant concern, with Kharge warning that failing to adhere to a budget could lead to bankruptcy and leave the party with a “bad name”. This has amplified the criticism against the party, which is now facing accusations of unrealistic promises and financial mismanagement.
