British number one Jack Draper’s impressive seven-match winning streak was halted in the Paris Masters third round, ending his hopes of qualifying for the ATP Finals. The 22-year-old, who won his first ATP Tour title in Vienna just days prior, was defeated by Australian Alex de Minaur in a hard-fought three-set match.
Despite the loss, Draper will still reach a career-high ranking of 14th in the world, solidifying his breakout season. He achieved several milestones this year, including a maiden Grand Slam semi-final at the US Open and winning an ATP 500 title in Vienna.
Draper, oozing confidence after his Vienna triumph, had impressive wins over Jiri Lehecka and Taylor Fritz in Paris, but ultimately fell to the more energetic De Minaur. The Australian, who had previously been hampered by injury during their US Open encounter, played with renewed vigor and eventually wore down Draper.
While the ATP Finals dream has been dashed, Draper’s focus will now shift to building on his 2024 success next season. He will look back fondly on a year filled with achievements and promise, eager to continue his climb up the rankings in 2025.
