**New Delhi, India:** As Diwali, the festival of lights, approaches, the Indian share market is gearing up for the annual Muhurat Trading, a tradition that dates back over 5 decades. This special trading session, which takes place on the auspicious day of Diwali, is believed to bring good fortune and prosperity for the coming year.
This year, Muhurat Trading will be held on November 1st from 6 PM to 7 PM. The tradition began on the BSE in 1957 and was later adopted by the NSE in 1992. During this hour, investors participate in a symbolic trading session, seeking blessings from the goddess Lakshmi for a prosperous year ahead.
The belief is that the planetary alignment during this Muhurat is auspicious for investing. However, experts caution against impulsive buying of overvalued stocks and recommend investing in value-based stocks for long-term gains.
Data suggests that the Sensex has risen during Muhurat Trading in 13 out of the past 17 years, with the highest rise of 5% in 2008. This is attributed to increased buying activity during the auspicious occasion.
Market experts advise investors to adhere to fundamental investment principles and avoid hasty decisions for quick returns.
Since last Diwali, the Sensex has delivered a return of approximately 25% while the Nifty has gained 27%. However, investors are advised to consult financial advisors before making any investment decisions.
