Fri Nov 01 12:22:58 UTC 2024: ## Govardhan Puja 2024: Celebrated on November 2nd, Not 1st

**Indore, MP:** Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakoot Puja, is a major Hindu festival celebrated on the first day of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the Kartik month. This year, however, due to Diwali falling on two days, confusion has arisen regarding the correct date of Govardhan Puja.

According to the Hindu calendar, the Pratipada Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha begins on November 1st, 2024, at 6:16 PM and ends on November 2nd, 2024, at 8:21 PM. Therefore, Govardhan Puja will be celebrated on **Saturday, November 2nd, 2024**.

The auspicious time for performing the puja is between 3:23 PM and 5:35 PM on November 2nd. During this time, devotees can create an effigy of Lord Govardhan using cow dung in their courtyard or outside their homes. They can also create figures of cows and bulls. Offerings like roli, rice, water, betel leaf, saffron, milk, flowers, kheer, sugar candy, and lamps are presented to the deity. The ritual includes circumambulation (parikrama) of the effigy, followed by aarti and prasad distribution.

Annakoot, another name for Govardhan Puja, involves offering a mountain of food to Lord Krishna. This symbolic offering, often made with rice, kheer, puris, vegetables, and curry, represents the bounty of the harvest.
