Nelson Dilipkumar, known for his dark comedies, has turned producer for “Bloody Beggar,” a film written and directed by debutant Sivabalan Muthukumar. The film follows the story of an enigmatic beggar (played by Kavin) who lives with a young boy, Jack. While the beggar’s motivations remain shrouded in mystery, his interactions with Jack, including his reluctance to spend money on him, raise questions about his true nature.
The plot takes a turn when the beggar is lured to the house of deceased movie star Chandrabose (Radha Ravi) for a free meal, only to find himself trapped amidst a property dispute between the star’s greedy heirs. As he witnesses their scheming, the beggar becomes entangled in a series of humorous situations, with the film employing a large ensemble cast for comedic effect.
The film’s strength lies in its black comedy, with various characters and scenes offering comedic moments. However, the film’s pacing can be uneven, with emotional sequences and flashbacks interrupting the flow. The humor, while present, can fall flat at times, and the illogical script can leave the audience feeling disengaged.
Despite these flaws, Kavin delivers a commendable performance, carrying the film on his shoulders. If you’re looking for something outlandish and different to enjoy this festive season, “Bloody Beggar” might be worth a watch, although it’s not without its shortcomings.
