Fri Nov 01 04:54:06 UTC 2024: ## Sporting Manager Rúben Amorim Set to Take Charge at Manchester United

**Lisbon, Portugal -** Sporting CP manager Rúben Amorim has confirmed he will be joining Manchester United as their new head coach, despite stating he feels a “need to prove something” in the move.

Amorim, 39, will take over at Old Trafford after the November international break, signing a contract that will keep him at the club until 2027. He will be paid a release fee of €10m (£8.3m), and United will also pay an additional €1m to shorten his 30-day notice period.

Amorim, who has led Sporting to a Portuguese league title and a Champions League quarter-final appearance, admitted to feeling “tiredness” and “nervousness” due to the ongoing speculation surrounding his future. However, he insisted the “soap opera” will end soon and that everyone will have clarity after Sporting’s game against Estrela da Amadora on Friday.

He will remain in charge of Sporting for their next three fixtures, including Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Manchester City. His first game in charge of United will be the trip to Ipswich on November 24th.

United have moved quickly to secure Amorim’s services after sacking Erik ten Hag on Monday. Chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth have been in Lisbon to negotiate with Sporting’s hierarchy and finalize the deal.

“It is a negotiation between two clubs,” Amorim said. “It is never easy, even with the clauses, it is never easy – they have to talk. We will have clarification after the game – it will be very clear. It is one more day. After the game tomorrow, we will have the decision made.”

Amorim is expected to bring five of his assistants to Manchester: Emanuel Ferro, Adélio Cândido, Carlos Fernandes, goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital, and sports scientist Paulo Barreira. The details of their compensation are yet to be determined.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue as United’s interim head coach for three more home games before handing over to Amorim. Van Nistelrooy has said he is willing to work under the Portuguese manager.
