The Indian Premier League (IPL) is gearing up for another exciting season, with the mega auction for IPL 2025 on the horizon. Ahead of the auction, franchises have until October 31st to submit their list of retained players. Each franchise can retain up to six players, with a maximum of five capped players and two uncapped Indian players. The five capped players can include all five overseas players.
With a purse of INR 120 crore, franchises will have to strategize carefully. Retaining five capped players will result in a deduction of INR 75 crore, distributed according to a pre-determined slab system. Teams also have the option to utilize their Right to Match (RTM) card, allowing them to match the bids of other franchises for their desired players.
While the exact date for the mega auction has not yet been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it is expected to take place in late November and continue for two days.
