Wed Oct 30 19:09:34 UTC 2024: ## Virat Kohli Set to Return as RCB Captain for IPL 2025

**Bangalore, India** – Virat Kohli is reportedly set to reclaim the captaincy of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. According to The Times of India, Kohli and RCB management have already discussed the leadership change, with Kohli expressing his desire to lead the team after a brief hiatus.

The decision comes as current captain Faf du Plessis, now 40, is likely to step down due to age. RCB sees Kohli as the ideal choice for the next chapter, recognizing his previous leadership experience and his unwavering commitment to the franchise.

Kohli previously led RCB from 2013 to 2021, taking the team to the playoffs four times. His closest run to the title was in 2016, where RCB narrowly lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. He stepped down from the captaincy in 2021 after relinquishing his T20I captaincy for India, but reaffirmed his commitment to playing for RCB for the rest of his IPL career.

While other captaincy options were considered, including Shubman Gill, plans with him did not materialize. Reports suggest that RCB may target Rishabh Pant in the upcoming auction.

Virat Kohli’s contributions to the IPL are undeniable. He has consistently been a top performer, scoring a remarkable 8,004 runs in 252 matches with a batting average of 38.67. His aggressive batting style, highlighted by 705 fours and 272 sixes, has made him a fan favorite.

With Kohli’s return as captain, RCB will be looking to finally lift the coveted IPL trophy.
