**Ballari, Karnataka -** Kannada film star Darshan was released on bail Wednesday evening after spending six weeks in Ballari Central Prison. The High Court of Karnataka granted him bail for medical reasons, and he was released shortly after the order arrived at the prison.
Darshan was originally arrested in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy in Chitradurga. While initially incarcerated at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, he was transferred to Ballari in August after footage of him receiving special privileges went viral.
The actor’s wife, Vijayalakshmi, arrived in Ballari on Wednesday morning in anticipation of his release. She met with prison authorities and her husband before visiting Durgamma Temple to offer a special puja.
Darshan’s release sparked excitement among his fans, who gathered outside the prison hoping to catch a glimpse of their hero. Police tightened security measures to prevent any disturbances during his departure.
Darshan, who has been suffering from back pain, underwent an MRI scan of his spinal cord on October 22. His lawyers argued for his release on medical grounds, and the High Court granted him an interim bail for six weeks to receive treatment.
He departed for Bengaluru via a route that avoided Karnataka, likely to avoid overwhelming crowds of fans.
Darshan’s release comes as a relief to his supporters, but the investigation into Renukaswamy’s murder continues. The case will likely be back in court in the coming weeks.
