Wed Oct 30 05:00:00 UTC 2024: ## EY Gurgaon Diwali Celebrations Spark Controversy Amidst Employee Death

**Gurugram, India** – A video of Diwali celebrations at Ernst & Young’s (EY) Gurugram office has gone viral on social media, attracting both praise and criticism. The video, shared by employee CA Sneha Chanchlani, shows employees dressed in traditional attire, participating in a fashion show on a red carpet, and enjoying festive activities.

While many celebrated the vibrant spirit of the celebrations, others found the festivities insensitive given the recent death of a former EY employee, Anna Sebastian Perayil. Perayil, who passed away in September, was allegedly subjected to excessive work pressure, according to her mother, Anita Augustine. Augustine wrote to EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani, accusing the company of contributing to her daughter’s demise. Memani expressed condolences but denied the family’s claims.

The juxtaposition of the celebratory video with the tragic circumstances surrounding Perayil’s death has triggered controversy, with many online users expressing outrage over the apparent insensitivity. The video has garnered over a million views on Instagram, sparking debate on work culture, employee well-being, and the appropriateness of large-scale celebrations amidst such sensitive events.

EY India is yet to issue an official statement regarding the criticism surrounding the Diwali celebrations.
