Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India – In a spectacular display of cultural and religious fervor, the holy city of Ayodhya set a new world record by lighting over 28 lakh (2.8 million) earthen lamps during the Deepotsav celebrations. The event, which took place on the banks of the Sarayu River, saw the city bathed in a golden glow, surpassing the initial target of 25 lakh diyas.
The Deepotsav, held on the eve of Diwali, showcased the spiritual and cultural essence of Ayodhya. It featured performances by artists from six countries, including Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Indonesia. The event also included a Ram Leela presentation from Uttarakhand and performances by artists from various Indian states.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed an ‘aarti’ to mark the beginning of the celebrations and also pulled the chariot on which Ram Leela artistes performed. The event was further enriched by 18 tableaux crafted by Saket Mahavidyalaya, depicting scenes from the epic Ramayana.
The Deepotsav held special significance this year as it was the first after the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Uttar Pradesh Minister Jaiveer Singh had emphasized the efforts made to ensure grandeur and divinity for the event.
The record-breaking Deepotsav celebrations in Ayodhya demonstrate the city’s importance as a cultural and religious hub, attracting visitors from all over the world.
