Tue Oct 29 19:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Sporting Boss Ruben Amorim Linked to Manchester United Manager Role
**Manchester, England:** Manchester United are reportedly interested in appointing Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as their new head coach following the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday.
The Red Devils are prepared to pay Amorim’s €10 million (£8.3m) release clause, according to a statement from Sporting to Portugal’s financial regulator, the CMVM.
Amorim, 39, has enjoyed considerable success with Sporting, winning two Portuguese league titles since joining the club in 2020, including their first in 19 years.
While Manchester United have not commented on the reports, Amorim addressed the speculation at a press conference on Monday, stating that he was expecting questions about the potential move but was not prepared to discuss it.
The Portuguese manager, known for his offensive and entertaining style of play, has previously held talks with West Ham in April but ultimately did not agree to a move.
This latest development makes it increasingly likely that Amorim will be in charge for Manchester United’s Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday.
While the appointment would represent a swift move for the club, it is not without risk. Amorim has never managed outside of the Portuguese league, and Manchester United are on a much larger scale than Sporting.
Questions remain about Amorim’s contract length, salary, and transfer budget, as well as how his preferred three-man defense will fit with Manchester United’s existing squad.
The next few days will see further developments, with a formal announcement and media conference expected shortly. For now, Amorim must prepare for what is likely to be his last game as Sporting boss before embarking on the biggest challenge of his career.
