**New Delhi, India:** Instagram users are experiencing a major technical snag that is preventing them from sending direct messages (DMs) on the platform. The outage, which began around 5 PM on Tuesday, has left thousands frustrated and unable to communicate with their friends and followers.

Downdetector, a service that tracks internet outages, has received over 2,000 reports from affected users. Many have taken to rival social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustration and confirm that they are not alone.

“Ignored your DM? No, I didn’t!! Instagram is down!!” one user tweeted. Another added, “I made top-up recharge for my messages which weren’t sending, came to X and saw it was Instagram’s problem.”

Users are reporting issues with message delivery, with messages failing to send and displaying error messages.

Neither Instagram nor its parent company, Meta, has issued an official statement regarding the cause of the outage. Users are advised to check the Instagram status page and Downdetector for updates on the situation.

This is the second major outage for the platform this month. Earlier in October, both Facebook and Instagram experienced widespread disruptions affecting thousands of users across the United States.

While Downdetector relies on user-submitted reports, the actual number of affected users could be even higher.
