**Ahmedabad:** India, despite a disappointing performance at the recent T20 World Cup, has secured a series victory against the reigning World Cup champions New Zealand in the recently concluded ODI series.

India’s star opener Smriti Mandhana played a crucial role in their triumph, scoring a century in the decisive third ODI to clinch the series 2-1. Mandhana, who had scored only 5 and 0 in the first two matches, returned to form in style, smashing her third ODI century of the year.

New Zealand, after winning the toss and choosing to bat, were bowled out for 232 runs in 49.5 overs. Brooke Halliday top-scored for the Kiwis with 86 runs. Deepak Sharma (3/39) and Priya Mishra (2/41) were the pick of the Indian bowlers, restricting the New Zealand batsmen.

India chased down the target comfortably, reaching 236 runs in 44.2 overs for the loss of four wickets. Mandhana’s century was a highlight, with her innings being pivotal to India’s success. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (59) and Yastika Bhatia (35) also contributed significantly to the chase.

The series victory is a morale boost for India, who will be looking to build on this momentum in the future.
