Tue Oct 29 18:58:54 UTC 2024: ## Senior Citizens Now Eligible for Free Healthcare Under Ayushman Bharat Scheme
**New Delhi:** In a significant move, the Indian government has expanded the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme to include all citizens aged 70 years and above. This extension, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ensures that senior citizens have access to free healthcare coverage up to ₹500,000 per year.
Previously, the scheme, which provides free healthcare to the poor and middle class, only covered individuals based on certain eligibility criteria. Now, irrespective of income, every citizen above 70 years will be entitled to the benefits. Notably, if a family member of a senior citizen is already receiving benefits under the scheme, the senior citizen will receive an additional ₹500,000 coverage.
To avail the benefits, senior citizens can apply online through the official website pmjay.gov.in. Applicants will need to provide their Aadhaar card, photograph, and other relevant documents for verification. After registration, the Ayushman card can be downloaded and printed for use at any participating hospital.
This expansion is a welcome step towards ensuring comprehensive healthcare access for all citizens, particularly the elderly who often face greater health challenges.
