Tue Oct 29 00:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Wembanyama Leads Spurs to Thrilling Home Opener Victory Over Rockets

**SAN ANTONIO** – Victor Wembanyama showcased his immense talent in the San Antonio Spurs’ home opener on Saturday night, leading the team to a 109-106 victory over the Houston Rockets.

The No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA draft, Wembanyama put up a dominant performance with 29 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. He shot an impressive 10-for-17 from the field, including a pair of thunderous alley-oop dunks off assists from veteran point guard Chris Paul.

Jeremy Sochan contributed 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, while Paul added three points and nine assists. The Rockets, who trailed by 22 points in the first half, mounted a furious comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Spurs 36-21. Jalen Green led Houston with 27 points, followed by Fred VanVleet with 18 and Dillon Brooks with 16.

Despite the Rockets’ strong finish, the Spurs were able to hold on for the victory, showcasing the potential of their young core. “We showed a lot of fight tonight, especially in the fourth quarter,” said Rockets coach Ime Udoka. “But we dug ourselves a hole too deep early on.”

The Spurs will have a chance to avenge their close call on Monday when they face the Rockets in a rematch at the AT&T Center.
