Tue Oct 29 08:58:53 UTC 2024: ## India Takes Flight: Tata and Airbus Inaugurate C295 Aircraft Assembly Line in Vadodara

**Vadodara, Gujarat – October 28, 2024:** In a landmark event for India’s defense sector, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Airbus inaugurated a state-of-the-art Final Assembly Line (FAL) complex for the C295 aircraft in Vadodara, Gujarat. This marks a significant milestone under the “Make in India” initiative, as it is the first time a private sector company in India will manufacture military aircraft.

The complex, inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, will produce 56 C295 aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Of these, 40 will be manufactured in India, while the remaining 16 will arrive from Spain in ready-to-fly condition.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the strategic importance of the project, highlighting it as a key component of “AatmaNirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India). He praised the project’s rapid development, with the foundation stone laid just two years ago, as a testament to India’s commitment to eliminating delays in executing major projects.

The facility will handle various aspects of production, from sub-assemblies and tools to complete aircraft assembly. Most components will be manufactured locally, creating a strong local supply chain with 37 Indian suppliers and 21 certified special processes. The first “Make in India” C295 aircraft is expected to roll out by September 2026, with the complete delivery of 40 aircraft targeted by August 2031.

The project is expected to generate significant employment and foster technical skills among Indian workers, further enhancing India’s aerospace capabilities beyond just assembly to include high-tech manufacturing.

This landmark project is a testament to India’s growing role in the global aerospace sector, with Modi highlighting the country’s increasing defense exports and its emergence as a global hub for defense production. He also expressed optimism about future joint projects with Spain, inviting Spanish industries and innovators to consider India as a partner in their growth journey.

The C295 FAL in Vadodara is poised to become a vital export hub, further strengthening India’s position as a leader in the global aerospace industry. This project signifies a proud moment for Indian aerospace and a key step forward for the “Make in India” initiative, showcasing India’s growing importance in the global aerospace supply chain.
