**New Delhi, India** – The festival of Diwali, one of the most significant and widely celebrated festivals in Hinduism, is set to be observed on **October 31st, 2024**, according to a unanimous decision by the All India Scholars’ Council at the Central Sanskrit University in Jaipur.
The council, composed of renowned scholars, astrologers, and religious experts, reached this conclusion after meticulously analyzing astrological calculations and traditional scriptures. They determined that October 31st aligns perfectly with the auspicious time of Kartik Amavasya, the darkest night of the Hindu lunar month of Kartik, and is ideal for Lakshmi Puja, the worship of the goddess of wealth.
According to the council, the Amavasya tithi (no moon day) begins on October 31st at 3:52 PM and ends on November 1st at 6:16 PM. Therefore, the evening of October 31st falls within the Amavasya period, making it the most appropriate day to celebrate Diwali.
The decision to celebrate Diwali on October 31st has been endorsed by leading scholars, including Professor Rampal Sharma, President of the council, and Professor Sudesh Sharma, Director of the Central Sanskrit University. They emphasized that Diwali should be observed on the day when the Amavasya tithi coincides with the auspicious Pradosh period, which falls on October 31st.
While there were some initial uncertainties regarding the exact date, the council’s unanimous decision has brought clarity and certainty for millions of Hindus across the globe. Diwali, which marks the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, is traditionally celebrated with lights, fireworks, and elaborate feasts.
This year, the festival will be celebrated on October 31st, bringing joy and prosperity to families and communities around the world.
