Mon Oct 28 21:41:05 UTC 2024: ## Dharwad Farmers Fight To Reclaim Land Claimed as Waqf Property
**Dharwad:** Farmers in Uppina Betageri village, Dharwad taluk, are embroiled in a legal battle to reclaim their ancestral land, which has been wrongly classified as Waqf property.
The controversy came to light after the Waqf Board issued notices to the farmers in Vijayapura. The farmers claim their land has been part of their families for generations and was never donated to any Waqf institution. Yet, land records from 2021, 2022, and 2023 show the land being categorized as Waqf property.
The farmers, including Javalghi, Masooti, and Hutaghi families, have been tilling their land for decades. The land records from 2018 and 2019, however, do not mention the land as Waqf property.
The affected farmers have been approaching the Waqf office and Tahsildar’s office for redressal but their pleas have been ignored.
The situation has created an alarming sense of uncertainty among the farmers who fear losing their livelihood. The families are now engaged in a legal struggle to reclaim their ancestral land and ensure their future.
The land in question includes 3 acres 13 guntas belonging to Masooti, 5 acres 37 guntas belonging to Mallikarjuna Hutaghi, and 20 acres belonging to the Javalghi family. The farmers are urging the authorities to rectify the error in the land records and restore their ownership of the land.
