Mon Oct 28 16:47:23 UTC 2024: ## Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei’s X Account Suspended Amid Escalating Tensions with Israel
**Jerusalem, October 28, 2024:** Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s newly created account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) was suspended on Monday morning. The account, which had been posting messages in Hebrew, was taken down with a brief message stating that X suspends accounts that violate its rules, without specifying the violation.
This suspension comes amidst heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, following Israel’s first open attack on Iranian targets over the weekend. The attack was a retaliation for Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israeli targets earlier this month.
Khamenei addressed the situation in a speech on Sunday, warning against exaggerating or downplaying the Israeli strikes while simultaneously affirming Iran’s determination to stand firm. His message, translated into English, read: “Zionists are making a miscalculation with respect to Iran. They don’t know Iran. They still haven’t been able to correctly understand the power, initiative, and determination of the Iranian people.”
This is not the first time Khamenei has faced social media account suspensions. In February, Meta removed his Facebook and Instagram accounts due to his support for the militant group Hamas following their attack on Israel.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting at Iran’s request to discuss the Israeli airstrikes. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed an appropriate response to Israel’s aggression, accusing the US of encouraging these actions. Iran has also reported a civilian casualty in the Israeli attack, identified as Allahverdi Rahimpour, although details on the circumstances remain unclear.
The escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, involving Hamas and Hezbollah, continues to raise serious concerns. The humanitarian consequences of the ongoing tensions are significant, and a peaceful resolution remains elusive.
