Mon Oct 28 00:19:49 UTC 2024: ## Perez Struggles at Home Race, Qualifying 18th Amidst Future Uncertainty
**MEXICO CITY** – Sergio Perez’s disappointing season took another hit on Saturday as he qualified a dismal 18th for his home race in Mexico City. The Red Bull driver failed to progress through Q1, finishing 0.8 seconds behind teammate Max Verstappen.
The result adds fuel to the fire surrounding Perez’s future at Red Bull, despite his contract extending until 2025. With Liam Lawson being assessed as a potential replacement for next season, speculation surrounding Perez’s position has intensified.
“It’s obviously very disappointing,” said a dejected Perez after the session. “It’s a Grand Prix I want to do really well, it’s this one.” He attributed his poor performance to a persistent braking issue that has plagued him for the past three races.
“I’ve been struggling quite a bit with braking. Every time I try to brake and attack the braking, I just put too much energy through the tires, and that makes it very tricky for me to stop the car,” Perez explained.
While Red Bull team boss Christian Horner insists that Perez is their driver and contracted for 2025, his support for the Mexican driver has been met with skepticism. Horner has previously stated that Perez is “hungry” and “not happy” with his recent performance, but the team’s focus on Lawson raises questions about their commitment to Perez.
The Mexican driver will be hoping for a turnaround in Sunday’s race, but with his current form and the looming shadow of his future, the odds are stacked against him.
