**Beed, Maharashtra:** In a surprising turn of events, incumbent MLA Prakash Solanke was awarded the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024, despite previously announcing his political retirement and designating his nephew, Jayasing Solanke, as his successor.
Solanke’s announcement of his retirement and support for Jayasing had led many to believe that the nephew would be the party’s chosen candidate for the Malshiras Assembly constituency. Supporters had even put up banners proclaiming Jayasing as the “future MLA.”
However, the NCP chose Prakash Solanke instead, leading to widespread disappointment and protests from Jayasing’s supporters. Audio clips of conversations between supporters and NCP leaders have surfaced, revealing that Jayasing had been promised the nomination.
The situation has been further complicated by the fact that Prakash Solanke secured the nomination following an agreement with Ramesh Adaskar, who was initially expected to receive the nomination. However, Adaskar was instead offered the “tutar” (reserved) candidacy.
With the sudden change of plans, Jayasing’s supporters have taken to the streets, demanding that the NCP reconsider its decision and nominate their preferred candidate. They have gathered outside the residence of NCP leader Ajit Pawar in Baramati, seeking a resolution to the issue.
The situation highlights the complexities within the NCP and the internal struggle for power within the Solanke family. It remains to be seen how the party will address the discontent among Jayasing’s supporters and whether the issue will impact the upcoming elections.
