Mon Oct 28 01:42:15 UTC 2024: ## Chelsea Clinch Top Four Spot with Hard-Fought Victory over Newcastle

Chelsea secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, propelling themselves back into the top four of the Premier League.

The Blues dominated possession in the first half, with Cole Palmer going close to opening the scoring only to be ruled offside. Chelsea eventually broke the deadlock through a well-worked counter-attack, with Palmer setting up Nicolas Jackson for a simple tap-in. Newcastle pulled level just before half-time through a deflected effort from Alexander Isak.

However, Palmer had the final say, slotting home the winning goal just two minutes after the restart, securing a deserved victory for the home side. The win moves Chelsea to 17 points, placing them fourth in the table, one point behind Villa and ahead of Arsenal on goal difference. Newcastle remain in 12th with 12 points.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Crystal Palace secured a 1-0 win over Spurs thanks to a goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta, while West Ham edged out Manchester United 2-1 courtesy of a late penalty from Jarrod Bowen.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was pleased with his side’s performance, praising their resilience and determination. He also highlighted the importance of Palmer’s contribution, saying the young player “doesn’t mind proving people wrong”.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted his side needs to improve their attacking output, having drawn a blank in their last two outings. He remains confident in his side’s ability to find the net, however, and highlighted the potential of winger Anthony Gordon, who signed a new contract with the club earlier this week.
