Mon Oct 28 03:10:00 UTC 2024: ## 49ers Lose Aiyuk to Season-Ending Injury in Chiefs Loss

**SANTA CLARA, CA** – The San Francisco 49ers suffered a major blow during their 28-18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, as star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk sustained a season-ending knee injury.

Aiyuk, who caught a 15-yard pass in the second quarter, was tackled hard by Chiefs safety Chamarri Conner, tearing his ACL and MCL. Head coach Kyle Shanahan, initially optimistic, learned about the severity of the injury at halftime.

“I didn’t know until halftime, because you couldn’t really see it live,” Shanahan said. “I just thought he had got the wind knocked out of him, or something.”

Aiyuk’s absence adds to the 49ers’ injury woes, which already included sidelined All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

However, Shanahan praised the performances of the receivers who stepped up in Aiyuk’s absence, including Ricky Pearsall, who made his regular-season debut just six weeks after being shot in the chest.

“With it being [Ricky Pearsall’s] first game, we were expecting to ease him in a little bit,” Shanahan explained. “Very quickly, I’m like, ‘All right, Ricky. We’re going to figure out how well you studied because we got to put you at some other positions.”

Shanahan also revealed that he spoke with Aiyuk after the game, emphasizing support and understanding for the receiver’s emotional state.

“I talked to BA,” Shanahan said. “You just want to tell him you feel for him. He knows it was tough, he was pretty sad. But he appreciated the call and was sorry he couldn’t finish the game.”

While the 49ers face a difficult task in replacing Aiyuk, Shanahan remains confident in his team’s ability to overcome the adversity. The team will now have to assess their options at the wide receiver position before the November 5th trade deadline.
