Sun Oct 27 14:03:26 UTC 2024: ## Dhoni Hints at IPL Return, CSK Plans for Major Overhaul
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans have been given a glimmer of hope for the upcoming IPL season as former captain MS Dhoni has hinted at continuing his cricketing journey. Speaking at an event in Goa, Dhoni expressed his desire to “enjoy the last few years of cricket” he has left, leaving the door open for a return to the IPL.
This comes ahead of a scheduled meeting with the CSK management where the franchise will be finalizing player retentions. While Dhoni has yet to officially confirm his decision, his comments have been interpreted as a positive sign, potentially paving the way for him to be retained as an uncapped player ahead of the auctions.
“We saw what he said at the event. So when he is ready, what more do we want?” commented CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan. “We will be having a meeting soon with him and then we will have a clear picture about our retentions.”
The meeting, which is expected to take place virtually in the coming days, will involve Dhoni, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, head coach Stephen Fleming, and the franchise management. While Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, and Matheesha Pathirana are expected to be retained, the CSK management is keeping its options open, including the Right to Match (RTM) card.
Despite Dhoni’s possible return, CSK are planning a major overhaul with an eye on the future. The franchise is actively looking for a wicketkeeper, regardless of Dhoni’s decision. The situation could change dramatically if Rishabh Pant becomes available at the auction, with CSK reportedly considered a potential destination for the Indian wicketkeeper.
Fans will be anxiously awaiting the outcome of the upcoming meeting, hoping for confirmation of Dhoni’s return and a glimpse into CSK’s future plans for the next IPL season.
