Sun Oct 27 13:13:34 UTC 2024: ## India Focus on Mumbai Test Despite WTC Final Blow
Despite a historic series loss to New Zealand, India captain Rohit Sharma has declared the team’s focus is solely on winning the final Test in Mumbai. India’s 11-year unbeaten run at home came to an end with the loss in Pune, jeopardizing their chances of reaching the World Test Championship final.
“We want to show up at Wankhede and win that Test,” said Rohit, acknowledging the team’s collective failure in the series. “The team has failed to accept the challenge thrown at us.”
Rohit admitted that the result was not what India expected, highlighting New Zealand’s superior performance. “Disappointing. It is not what we expected. New Zealand played better cricket than us,” he said.
He blamed the team’s poor batting for the losses in Bengaluru and Pune, stating, “We did not put enough runs, then conceded a 100-run lead. It was a fightback from us, but it was always going to be challenging.”
Despite the setback, India remains in contention for the WTC final, but their lead has narrowed. The team will look to end the series on a high in Mumbai, putting the disappointment of the New Zealand series behind them.
