Sun Oct 27 12:41:28 UTC 2024: ## Haaland Strikes Again as City Edge Past Southampton

**Manchester, England** – Erling Haaland continued his prolific goalscoring form, netting the only goal of the game as Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory over Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The win provisionally places City at the top of the Premier League table with 23 points after nine games.

Haaland’s goal arrived in the fifth minute, breaking a three-game Premier League drought for the Norwegian striker. After wrestling with defender Jan Bednarek, Haaland, known for his clinical finishing from difficult angles, poked the ball into the net with his toe while falling onto his backside.

Despite having a chance to equalize just before half-time when Cameron Archer hit the crossbar with a one-on-one opportunity, Southampton struggled to create clear-cut chances against a dominant City side.

Despite a flurry of near-misses from Haaland in the second half, the scoreline remained unchanged. City, however, dominated possession and outshot their opponents by a significant margin.

Pep Guardiola praised Southampton’s performance, acknowledging their brave approach and willingness to play the ball out from the back.

“Today it was how good [Southampton] played with the ball, with the keeper [Aaron Ramsdale] and the movement,” Guardiola said. “It’s a good game to learn as a manager. I am going to learn a lot with Russell [Martin, Southampton boss] because they did really well.”

The victory extends City’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to 32 games, and they haven’t lost at the Etihad since November 2022. Southampton, meanwhile, remain winless in their first season back in the top flight and are bottom of the table with just one point.
