Sat Oct 26 20:20:00 UTC 2024: ## West Indies Clinch Consolation Win in Rain-Affected ODI

**Pallekele, Sri Lanka:** Evin Lewis smashed a brilliant century, hitting four sixes and nine fours in his 61-ball 102, as West Indies secured a consolation victory in the third ODI against Sri Lanka. The match was significantly impacted by rain, resulting in a 23-overs-a-side contest decided by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

Sri Lanka, who had already won the series, set a revised target of 195 runs for West Indies after posting 156/3 in their allotted overs. Kusal Mendis (56 off 22) and Pathum Nissanka (56 off 72) starred for the hosts with blistering half-centuries.

However, Lewis and Sherfane Rutherford (50 off 26) took charge for West Indies, launching a blistering chase that saw them reach the target with an over and eight wickets to spare.

The match was initially interrupted by rain after 17 overs with Sri Lanka comfortably placed at 81/0. However, the break lasted nearly five hours before play resumed, and Mendis capitalized on the shortened format with aggressive hitting.

West Indies’ chase started slowly, with Brandon King and Lewis building a solid foundation. But, the loss of King in the sixth over put the pressure back on West Indies. However, Lewis’s blistering knock and Rutherford’s explosive cameo ensured a comfortable victory for the Caribbean side.

The win, while a consolation, provides a much-needed boost for West Indies’ confidence heading into the next series.
