**Patna, Bihar:** The political landscape of Bihar has seen a significant change with the return of the family of the late Mohammad Shahabuddin, former RJD MP from Siwan, to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
On Sunday, Shahabuddin’s wife, Hina Shahab, and son, Osama, joined the RJD in the presence of party supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and other senior leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav. The move comes after a period of strained relations between the Shahabuddin family and the RJD leadership, following the former MP’s death.
The return of the Shahabuddin family is seen as a strategic move by the RJD ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. It is expected that the family’s influence, especially in Siwan, will bolster the RJD’s electoral prospects.
Hina Shahab had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Siwan as an independent candidate, but failed to secure a victory. The RJD came in third place in the constituency, behind the JD(U) winner and Hina Shahab.
The re-entry of the Shahabuddin family has also sparked reactions from rival parties. JD(U) leader and Union Minister, Lalit Singh, while stating that it is their choice to join any party, implied that the RJD’s actions reflect their strategy and the kind of people they are bringing into their fold.
