Fri Oct 25 18:20:00 UTC 2024: Luzerne County’s election bureau is currently processing 1,200 voter registration applications and 5,300 mail ballot requests ahead of the Nov. 5 general election. County Manager Romilda Crocamo announced that the voter registration processing is expected to be completed by the end of the day, following Monday’s registration deadline. The bureau aims to catch up on mail ballot applications over the weekend, although more requests will continue to come in until the state deadline on Tuesday.

As of Wednesday evening, about 2,500 voter registration applications remained, with 1,300 processed in the preceding day. The requests include both paper and online submissions, including new registrations and changes in political party or address. Some applications are duplicates due to automatic registration options when renewing driver’s licenses.

The election bureau has issued 51,000 ballots and received 17,000 completed ballots back from voters so far. Crocamo emphasized the importance of meeting statutory deadlines to ensure voters receive their mail ballots in time, as only ballots physically received by the bureau by 8 p.m. on Nov. 5 will count.

Crocamo expressed gratitude for Election Director Emily Cook, Deputy Director Steve Hahn, and all election workers for their hard work in ensuring a fair and transparent election process.
