The first day of the Ranji Trophy witnessed a mix of fortunes for teams across India. While some chose to bat first, others opted to field.

In the first innings of their match against Karnataka, Delhi decided to field first. This proved to be a wise decision as Karnataka fell behind by 127 runs. Similarly, Chandigarh also elected to field against J&K, which resulted in a 112-run lead for the latter.

However, not all teams were as lucky. Uttar Pradesh found themselves trailing by 202 runs against Vidarbha after choosing to bat first. Similarly, Chhattisgarh’s decision to bat first against Saurashtra backfired, leading to a 199-run deficit.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra and Rajasthan opted to field against their respective opponents, while Mumbai chose to bat first.

The day also saw a close match between Mizoram and Nagaland, where Mizoram opted to bat first. Nagaland, however, was able to gain an advantage, leading by 105 runs at the end of the day.

Meanwhile, Himachal, Hyderabad, and Arunachal Pradesh chose to field first against their respective opponents.

The performance of players like Abhimanyu, Washington, Harshit, Nitish, and Prasidh in their respective matches has caught the eye of selectors, raising hopes for their inclusion in future national teams. Abhimanyu, in particular, has been in stellar form, having scored a century in all four of his previous first-class matches.

With the first day of the Ranji Trophy concluding, the tournament promises to be a thrilling affair with a mix of exciting performances and close contests.
