Fri Oct 25 10:24:56 UTC 2024: A Delhi-based app developer is attempting to fund his studies at Cambridge University by offering the domain name “JioHotstar.com” for sale to Reliance Industries (RIL) or Viacom18. He created the website to propose the sale, believing that RIL could be interested as they are merging with Disney Star, forming an $8.5 billion entertainment network after regulatory approvals in August 2024.
The developer speculated that, like previous rebranding efforts with JioSaavn, RIL may rename Hotstar to JioHotstar following the merger. He explained that his experience in the Cambridge University Accelerate program inspired him to pursue a full degree in entrepreneurship there but that the associated costs are high. He hopes that selling the domain could help finance his education.
He emphasized that acquiring the domain would be a minor expense for a multi-billion dollar company but would be life-changing for him. As of now, there has been no response from Jio or Hotstar regarding his proposal.
