Wed Oct 23 10:37:14 UTC 2024: The Kerala government has announced the approval of a Dearness Allowance (DA) increase for state government employees and teachers, along with a similar relief for pensioners. Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal confirmed that employees across various sectors, including UGC, AICTE, and medical services, will benefit from this increase. This decision will result in an estimated annual cost increase of approximately ₹2000 crores for the government. The new allowances will be implemented with the next month’s salaries and pensions.

Earlier this year in April, a previous DA increase was granted, and the government plans to provide two DA increases annually to employees and pensioners, as stated by the Chief Minister. The Finance Minister emphasized that despite the financial challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Kerala had successfully implemented better salary reforms. He also noted that delays in distributing some benefits were due to unfavorable actions from the central government, which contributed to unprecedented inflation in the state.
